4-H Pledge: For my club, my community, my country, and my world.
The 4-H programs provide practical experiences in trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. The 4-H year runs from October 1st to September 30th and provides opportunities for families to experience fun together. Families are able to encourage youth while they learn from both their successes and their failures.
4-H members are also active in helping the local Chesapeake community; they have collected pet food and toys for Chesapeake Animal Control, food items for the Southeast Food Bank, hats and gloves for the Chesapeake Office of Youth Services and donated items for care packets which were sent to the "We Care Marines" organization.
Some of the interesting opportunities include:
Club Activities There are several 4-H clubs and projects in Chesapeake. Youth can participate in the Horse and Pony Club, Hippology Team, Livestock Club or even the Ham Project. Take a look at a list of 4-H Clubs and Programs that may interest you.
Overnight Summer Camp Program The Chesapeake 4-H Camp runs from July 25-29th. Registration opens on March 28th at 8 p.m. and the cost is $340. Visit the official 4-H Camp website to learn more and register for this year's camp.
Sharing
4-H provides an opportunity for families to experience fun together. Families can take an interest in 4-H projects and activities with youth. Families may give encouragement while allowing youth to learn by mistakes, as well as successes.
Supporting
Families gain more from 4-H by attending meetings regularly and by getting involved in 4-H activities. Clubs encourage the entire family to be a part of the meetings, community service events, trips and activities.
Preparing
Families can help youth prepare for real life experiences through 4-H by showing them the value of learning, helping youth carry out their duties in a club, and encouraging them to follow through on their responsibilities.
Caring
4-H helps families care for one another by working together, spending time together and learning together. Stronger families are built by showing interest in each family member's activities.
