Waste Management Division
Normal service for trash and recycling collections resumed Tuesday, Jan. 9. (Find your route.) Residents should place their automated cans at the curb on their normal day and leave them until collected. Extra TRASH, in bags, may be placed beside your brown can but please leave at least 3 feet of clearance between the can and extra trash. The extra trash will be collected by a different truck so one may be picked up before the other. Only recyclables placed IN the Blue Can will be recycled.
If your trash was missed on Jan. 4 or 5, it will be collected on your regular day this week. If your recycling was missed on Jan. 4 or 5, it will be collected on your next regular day (Jan. 18 or 19).
Updated: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.
The Waste Management Division of the Public Works Department provides refuse collection once every week for over 60,000 residences in Chesapeake. Over 100,000 tons of refuse is collected annually. The City's Solid Waste is transported to the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) transfer located on Greenbrier Parkway, or the regional Refuse Derived Fuel Facility located in Portsmouth (SPSA facility locations). For waste collection information and services, call your Chesapeake Customer Contact Center at 382-CITY (2489). Chesapeake residents may dispose of residential solid waste at SPSA facilities.
