A diverse collection of plants, including a variety of native plants; asters, cardinal flowers, garden phlox, goldenrod, surround a neat lawn area. Two gorgeous river birch trees frame an attractive front garden which continues around the side of the house and into the backyard. The garden is rimmed by numerous trees including a large native tulip poplar, a red maple and several ornamental trees. The owners took a Master Gardener class on lawn care and followed the best practices by getting a soil test, mowing to the proper height, watering deep, and thus minimizing the use of fertilizer and herbicides. There are several features that attract pollinators and birds, including a bee house, bird feeders, and a water feature. Additionally, the homeowners have minimized impervious surfaces, and have rain barrels and dry wells to minimize rain water runoff.
