CEIC Environmental Awards Program
The CEIC Environmental Awards Program is an annual activity to recognize those individuals, groups, or organizations that have been involved in outstanding recycling, beautification, and litter control projects in Chesapeake.
Nominate individual, group or organization accomplishments by completing a nomination form. Photographs, news clips, letters of endorsement, and other documentation may be submitted and are encouraged to substantiate claims made in your nomination form.
One award is presented in these categories:
- Business & Industry
- Community Organization - Adult
- Community Organization - Youth
- Educational Institution
- Government Agency
Entries are accepted January 1-28, 2018 and must be based on activities conducted between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
Winning entries will be recognized at the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, March 07, 2018 at 12 p.m. at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
The Clean and Green Poster Contest is sponsored by the CEIC for Chesapeake students to promote litter prevention. The contest is open to students in grades K-12. The purpose of this contest is to get the viewer to start thinking and stop littering. To enter, a teacher or parent must register online. Please read all rules prior to registering. Registration begins January 1, 2018. Registration Deadline is Friday, February 23, 2018.
There are five categories for entries based on the school grade of students entering a poster.
Cash prizes are awarded.
- 1st Place - $100
- 2nd Place - $50
- 3rd Place - $25
Schools receive a $50 check for the teacher of each first-place winner to use for a celebration party or any classroom need.
Nominate your own or a neighbor's yard. Yards that are professionally maintained are ineligible. Open to all citizens in Chesapeake communities. The deadline for nominations is May 31. <<FLYER>>

June - Judging will take place
July - Winners are announced for the following high school districts in Chesapeake: Deep Creek, Grassfield, Great Bridge, Hickory, Indian River, Oscar Smith, and Western Branch.
- $50 gift certificate is presented to the winning
homeownerscompliments of White's Old Mill Garden Center located at 3133 Old Mill Road.
- A sign is placed in the winning yards for a month
- A certificate is presented to the winners
Business Beautification Award
This award recognizes a business in Chesapeake that takes pride in the visual impression it leaves on the surrounding neighborhood and shows an awareness of the environment. Criteria is based on:
- Building(s) – The design is appropriate for the adjacent neighborhood, suitably placed on the site, and maintained.
- Landscape – The landscape is healthy and appropriately scaled for the building.
- Litter Control – The area is clean and litter free. Trash containers are available for public use.
- Signage – The overall design is consistent in style and lettering.
A certificate is presented to the winning business at the November meeting of the Women's Division Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce-Chesapeake (WDHRCC). A special presentation is also made at the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council (CEIC) Awards Luncheon in March. Nominations Deadline is Friday, September 15, 2017.
