COUNCIL/MAYORAL ELECTIONS
- The Mayor and City Council members are elected for four-year terms by the people in general Mayoral and Council elections.
- The council elections are held every two years, and the Mayoral elections are held every four years, on the first Tuesday in May to fill expiring terms.
- The terms of Council members and the Mayor begin on July 1, following their election, and continue for a term of four years.
- The Council chooses, by majority vote, one of its members to be Vice-Mayor.
- The Mayor presides over Council meetings and is recognized head of the City government for all ceremonial purposes.
- The Vice-Mayor, in the absence of the Mayor, will perform the duties of the Mayor.
- In the event the position of Mayor should become vacant, the Vice-Mayor shall assume all of the duties and powers of the Mayor until the next general election.
