The Lifestyle Center provides the following programs for seniors:

Bowling

Seniors can participate in the program Spare-time, Fun-time Bowling at the following locations:

  1. AMF Chesapeake Lanes

    Play begins at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and Wednesdays. The seniors can bowl two games. Costs include shoes and refreshments. Charge is $3.70.

    Play begins at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. The seniors can bowl two games. Costs include shoes and refreshments. Charge is $3.70.

Mall-Walking

Seniors can participate in the program: Heart and Sole Mall Walking at Greenbrier Mall on Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Seniors are requested to register on Wednesday. On the first Wednesday of every month, a lecture and health screening is featured.

Health-Screenings

Held the first Wednesday of every month in the lobby of Chesapeake General Hospital between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and at Greenbrier Mall between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Service is provided free of charge.

Friday Night Dinner

Held in Chesapeake General Hospital Cafeteria between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Cost is $3.25

Lifestyle Center

Discount memberships offered to seniors 62 years and older. Membership aerobic classes, cardiovascular equipment, circuit weights and free weights. A qualified staff is available to orient members on equipment. For further details, please contact Lifestyle Center at 312-6132.

Alive Mature Driving Class

Classroom refresher course specifically designed to meet the needs of older drivers taught by American Association of Retired Persons. Classes are offered on a monthly basis. Support Groups at Lifestyle Center:

  1. Breast Cancer
    Meetings are held first Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM.

  2. Prostate Cancer
    Meetings are held first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM.

  3. Spouse Loss
    Meetings are held every Friday at 7:00 PM.

RSVP provides meaningful volunteering for non-profit organizations with volunteers giving their time and talents to make a better community. Presently, there are 204 enrolled volunteers and 51 volunteer stations where they serve. RSVP is always looking for more volunteers. A recognition luncheon is held each year to honor volunteers.

Older Adult Behavioral Health Services

The services available are designed specifically for the older adult (55+yrs.)

  • A depression support group held at Chesapeake General Hospital- Free of charge
  • An Alzheimer's early memory loss support group at Chesapeake General Hospital.- Free of charge.
  • An Inpatient Individualized Treatment Program to assist the older adult overcome emotional or behavioral challenges, ranging from increased anxiety and agitation to clinical depression. The program is covered by Medicare and most private insurers.
  • A Partial Hospital Program to assist older adults in need of treatment and support for emotional challenges ranging from increased anxiety to depression. This is an intensive day treatment program that provides transportation to and from the facility, if located on the southside of Virginia. Medicare and most private insurers cover the program.
  • Confidential assessment-Free of charge
  • Education for community service providers on the needs and treatment of the older adult with behavioral changes-Free of charge. CALL: (757) 312-6143 for information on any of these services.
