On October 23, Mayor Rick West presented a proclamation to Tidewater Community College (TCC) in honor of the college's 50th anniversary.
For the past 50 years, TCC has served the citizens of South Hampton Roads by providing affordable higher education, workforce development, and economic development opportunities. The Chesapeake Campus of TCC, which opened in 1973, welcomes 11,500 students annually. The campus currently features the signature programs of interior design, horticulture, theatre and mechatronics. The Regional Automotive Center, located at 600 Innovation Drive in Chesapeake, includes automotive, marine and diesel training programs.
The campus encompasses protected wetlands and a tributary of the southern branch of the Elizabeth River, providing students with walking trails to enjoy the campus’ sixty-nine acres of woodlands that create a living laboratory of wildlife as part of a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The campus has been an integral component in the economic development of the City of Chesapeake, providing citizens with employment, education, and cultural opportunities.
