CHESAPEAKE - The City of Chesapeake has been named the sixth best run City in the nation by Internet business analysis site 24/7 Wall Street. The reviewers evaluated the 100 largest cities by population on a variety of criteria including local economy, fiscal discipline, and standard of living. The results were published online today, with the complete listing available at www.247WallSt.com.
In naming Chesapeake number six in its survey, 24/7 Wall Street highlighted the City's relatively low crime and unemployment rates, along with Chesapeake having the second lowest poverty rate in the nation.
"Independent rankings such as these further confirm that Chesapeake is charting a sound course through these challenging times," said City Manager William E. Harrell. "Thanks to strong, focused leadership by the City Council, coupled with a creative and committed professional staff, Chesapeake continues to build a bright future on a strong foundation of excellence."
