President Obama’s “Every Kid in a Park” Initiative
and how Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism is Ready!
|Research demonstrates that youth who spend time outdoors are healthier and do better in school. Youth who have opportunities for hands-on learning outdoors also demonstrate more interest in and are more proficient in science.|
On February 19, 2015, President Obama announced the “Every Kid in a Park” Initiative. This effort is to try and make access easier to national parks for fourth graders and their families by providing new resources, educational materials, grants and free admission for one year.
Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism provides over 70 parks in the City where not only youth but people of all ages can experience the great outdoors here in Chesapeake. Affordable and free programs are available that provide hands-on opportunities to enhance learning and experience nature.
Take the first step towards helping you and your family experience the benefits of being outdoors by taking advantage of some of these free programs offered in March:
