A Message from Chief Ed Elliott
On behalf of over 450 members of the Chesapeake Fire Department, please allow me to welcome you to our website! The C.F.D. is a unique and diverse group of dedicated men and women on a mission for the citizens of the City of Chesapeake:
To Protect & Improve your Quality of Life
By Providing Responsive & Caring Service
While delivering services in the safest, most efficient manner practicable, we continually strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction possible.
Of the more than 25,000 calls for assistance to which we respond each year, 74% are for emergency medical services (EMS). We provide both basic and advanced life support levels of EMS. In addition to emergency medical, fire and rescue responses, our Fire Prevention Division oversees fire inspections, arson investigation, bomb threats, plans review and life safety education programs as well.
A vital component of the Fire Department is the Office of Emergency Management. Its primary responsibility is to plan for and mitigate any natural or man-made emergency that might threaten the City of Chesapeake.
Since September 11, 2001, the world and the fire service has changed dramatically. In response to new threats to the security of our homeland, the Chesapeake Fire Department’s Special Operations Teams constantly train in many disciplines. Our Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Marine Incident Response, Foam Firefighting and Communications teams all work together to form an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness and response.
Additional programs offered by the C.F.D. include Child Safety Seat Installations, Fire Station Tours, Fire Extinguisher Training, Safety Inspections, Public Fire Education and the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). Through these programs, our proactive approach to public safety and citizen involvement is best represented. We invite you to learn more about all of these programs and the services provided by the C.F.D. here on our website or by calling the Administrative Offices during normal business hours.
I also encourage you to visit the “Volunteer Opportunities” section of our site where you will find opportunities that will enable you to assist your community while learning valuable skills that may help save the life of a friend or family member. We value our citizen and corporate partnerships, as it is through these relationships that our Department is better equipped to complete our mission.
If you are visiting us, I welcome you to our City. If you are a resident of our City, please stop by your neighborhood fire station and meet your City’s firefighters and medics. We are proud to be YOUR Fire Department and stand ready to serve you whenever and wherever needed!
