Road and Shoulder Maintenance
Public Works maintains over 2,300 miles of roadway and connected shoulders throughout the City. The City's maintenance operations are directed toward safe travel and preservation of the road surface. Public Works conducts very detailed evaluations of the surface and sub-surface of all City-maintained roads. Our Pavement Management System (PMS) optimizes our available expenditures taking into account the following factors:
- Measured pavement ratings
- Rate of pavement deterioration
- Traffic volumes served.
The current paving schedule is based on all of those parameters in order to develop an effective, balanced city-wide program.
Maintenance is either contracted or performed by professional Public Works crews. Maintenance may consist of resurfacing, crack sealing; and pothole, cave in, curb and shoulder repair.
