Dominion Boulevard Improvement Project

Please use caution when traveling the corridor as it is an active work zone with a speed limit of 35mph.

Weekly Project Updates (Updated every Friday.) Single Lane Closure: Dominion Boulevard between the Steel Bridge and Great Bridge Boulevard will be reduced to one lane overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28 and 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. Crews will be installing a new drainage pipe across the road. Single Lane Closure: There will be one lane closed for utility work on Great Bridge Boulevard just east of Dominion Boulevard from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Single Lane Closure: The single lane closure on the ramp from Route 168 South to southbound Dominion Boulevard (Exit 15B to 17 South) will continue through Wednesday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Schedule may be adjusted depending on weather. Extended Ramp Closure: The ramp from northbound Route 168 to southbound Dominion Boulevard (Exit 15B to 17 South) will be closed starting Tuesday, June 4 through 2015. A detour via I-464 Exit 1 to I-64 Exit 291B and finally to Exit 15B (17 South) will be marked. Download this map illustrating the detour. Construction activity will continue to increase, including additional night operations which will minimize disruption to motorists during the day. Equipment operations, temporary lights and noise may be noticeable at times. Maritime Traffic: There are no anticipated impacts for maritime traffic at this time.

Previous Updates

Mullen Road is permanently closed at Dominion Blvd. Mullen Road traffic can use Mains Creek Road to Great Bridge Boulevard to access Dominion Boulevard. An additional route via an extended Libertyville Road will be available in July.
Pine Wood Run is now closed at the Dominion Boulevard intersection. It will become a cul-de-sac.
The Blake Street/Byron Street pedestrian tunnel is closed until the summer of 2014.

November 15, 2012: Financial close on $150.7 million Chesapeake Transportation System Toll Road Revenue Bonds and a $152 million subordinate loan provided by the Virginia Transportation Infrastructure Bank.

October 18, 2012: This presentation is an overview of the Chesapeake Transportation System Senior Toll Road Revenue Bonds, Series 2012. These bonds, totaling approximately $155.7 million, are anticipated to be sold on October 24, 2012. These bonds will be used to finance the Dominion Boulevard project construction including the replacement of the Steel Bridge. They will also be used to refund the outstanding 1999 bonds from the Chesapeake Expressway and to fund reserves and other costs for the bonds.

October 9, 2012: the City Council approved the plan of finance for the Chesapeake Transportation System.
