How to Check for Water Leaks
- Look inside,outside, and under your house for dripping or puddling water.
- Put a few drops of food coloring in the toilet tank and do not flush. In 15 minutes, if the color is in the toilet bowl, you have a leak.
- To request a free leak detection kit, call Public Utilities Customer Service at 757-382-6352 or email us at water@cityofchesapeake.
- If you find and repair a leak, contact Customer Service at 757-382-6352 so that a technician can check your meter and get another reading.

- If you've repaired a water leak you can apply for an adjustment. An adjustment is only considered for consumptions above average use. The average bill is to be paid by the due date while the adjustment review is pending.
- Mail the completed Adjustment Request Form to Public Utilities, Attention: Customer Service, P.O. Box 15225, Chesapeake, VA 23328, within 30 days after the account is billed, or
- Email the completed form to water@cityofchesapeake.net

- A service technician will check the City line and meter. If there is not a problem with the City lines or meter, then you will need to contact a plumber to evaluate the problem in your lines.
