WCTV adheres to the mission of the Public Communications Department of the City of Chesapeake. The ultimate goal of WCTV is to provide you with information that is specifically designed for you as a citizen of Chesapeake.

In addition to the types of programs listed above, WCTV offers you telecasts of City Council meetings, and Planning Commission meetings. Such telecasts are intended to help you learn more about the leadership and services of your municipal government.

WCTV History

WCTV first aired as "Access Cable Chesapeake' in 1986. The WCTV station was originally a 'public access' station. With this kind of television station Chesapeake citizens were invited to produce their own programs.

As time passed, it became clear that most people in Chesapeake were more interested in watching their elected officials conduct business. Most citizens agreed that bringing the government to the people was a good idea, so the municipal government began to use WCTV. While the programming line-up has changed some over the years, WCTV programs always have been and continues to be all about your city.

The Future of WCTV

As Chesapeake continues to grow, the need for information about the city will also grow. Plans are in progress for a second channel that will serve the schools and the community. The station is also searching for a new location, since it has outgrown its current space.

As WCTV grows, programming choices will continue to be driven by your needs and wants. The number one priority of WCTV is to let you know what's happening in your city's government.
