Crisis Negotiations Team

The Chesapeake Police Department's Crisis Negotiations (CNT) Team is a highly trained unit that responds to negotiate with persons in crises. These situations include suicidal persons, barricaded persons, and hostage situations. The Crisis Negotiations Team works and trains closely with the Special Weapons and Tactics Team.

The CNT Team is comprised of twelve sworn officers. Officers assigned go through an initial training period and then attend additional training courses to maintain their proficiency. The team trains together on a monthly basis, and participates in joint training exercises with the Chesapeake SWAT Team and other local, state and federal agencies.
