Athletic Field Reservations and Rentals
The Chesapeake Parks & Recreation Department has several baseball, softball, soccer and multi-purpose open play fields that can accommodate various athletic activities located on City property and in parks. Scheduled programs administered by the City and School teams have priority. When City fields are not scheduled, they can be made available for use by groups or teams. City athletic fields will normally be made available for use from March through November.
The application system is designed to help streamline the communication and maximize the scheduled use of the fields, to better serve all of the community. Once all documents and the applications have been submitted and approved, staff will review and allocate the field(s) that could be available for your group, beginning with use in March. The following is a list of all documents required for the two types of rentals:
Short Term Rentals
(Tournaments, Camps etc.)
1. Completed application;
2. Copy of liability insurance;
3. Copy of non-profit tax identification number 501(c)3 or equivalent (required only on school's fields);
4. Required deposits for fields and light use;

Long Term Rentals
(Youth Groups Only)

4. Projected schedule of field usage to include all specific dates and times (Please note: Before the actual season begins, a final game and practice schedule must be submitted.);
5. Last season's rosters and player information, then - after current registration is complete - final rosters and player information prior to beginning of the current season.

Seasonal teams and associations should submit date specific requests in their package for long term rentals.
- There will no longer be a first come, first served field reservation system for long term rentals. Teams and associations which utilized City fields the previous year will have the opportunity to apply for fields until January 31st. Beginning February 1st, field requests from all others will be accepted and availability will begin to be distributed through a written ball field permit to approved teams and organizations.
- Parks and Recreation will continue to evaluate all approved and completed requests that have been submitted to date and begin distributing field permits for the remainder of the year or season. Assignments will be based on past usage, updated insurance, current rosters, number of Chesapeake residents, Chesapeake businesses and/or organizations, projected schedule, and available facilities.
