Basketball Goals

The following are excerpts from the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance (CZO) which pertain to the above subject matter:

§14-103.C A BASKETBALL GOAL IS AN ACCESSORY USE AND PERMITTED IN A REQUIRED FRONT YARD, UNLESS RESTRICTED BY OTHER STATE AND CITY REQUIREMENTS.

A basketball goal may be permitted in the front yard of a single-family residential structure, subject to the following conditions:

Only one front yard goal is permitted per residence.

The goal is set back at least fifteen (15) feet from the property line (typically 25’ from street).

No basketball court may be constructed specifically for the basketball goal, though or otherwise permitted driveway may be utilized as a court.

NOTE: BASKETBALL GOALS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE STREET OR RIGHT OF WAY AT ANY TIME. THERE IS NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN PERMANENTLY MOUNTED OR PORTABLE BASKETBALL GOALS UNDER THE LAW.
