Elevators
New Elevator
Do I need a permit for a new elevator? Who performs the inspection?
New Residential or new commercial elevator is required a mechanical permit. City certified third party elevator inspector will perform inspection for final acceptance. Upon the completion of inspection, inspector will submit the final report to the City of Chesapeake's Building Officials for an approval.
A Certificate of Compliance will be issued upon the approval of final acceptance's report for commercial elevator, escalator, or any moving devices. In order to comply with the City Code and Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC), the Certificate of Compliance must be posted in or near the elevator.
A Certificate of Compliance is not required for residential elevator.
