2009 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Codes
2009 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Codes Went into Effect on March 1, 2011.

Construction Codes and Residential Code apply to all matters affecting or relating to construction, alteration, repair, additions, removal of structures and changing the use of buildings.

The Residential Code supersede the provisions of local ordinances applicable to single-family residential construction to regulate dwelling foundations and crawl spaces; require the use of specific building material or finishes construction; require minimum surface area or numbers of windows.

The Maintenance Code is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents; provided thtat buildings and structures should be permitted to be maintained at the least possible cost consistent with recognized standards of health, safety, energy and water conservation, included provisios necessary to prevent overcrowding, rodent or insect infestation and garbage accumulation.

The design and installation of plumbing systems, including sanitary and storm drainage, sanitary facilities, water supplies and storm water and sewage disposal in buildings shall comply with the requirements of this code.

Mechanical Codes control the installation of all mechanical systems and associated equipment in respect to fire safety and operation. All methods of operation and equipment shall meet the code compliance regulations

Fuel Gas Codes govern the installation, modification and maintenance of fuel gas systems. In applying this code, reference shall also be made to the manufacturer's instructions and the serving gas supplier's regulations.
