Mayor's Ambassadors
Who are the Mayor’s Ambassadors?
The Mayor’s Ambassadors are middle school youth (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) who do not routinely receive recognition but make a difference in unique, personal ways. They are your average students who have overcome adversity, provided service to others, set a good example, and are positive role models.
What is the purpose of the Initiative?
To build a relationship with the schools and the Mayor’s Office that will inspire middle school youth to higher levels of service and achievement by giving them prominent exposure in the community. To give them a “jump-start” to success by sending a message to our community that they are important.
What is their role as an ambassador?
The Mayor’s Ambassadors will attend local events and meetings as guests of the Mayor. They will advise him on topics pertaining to youth or answer questions of the Mayor that arise from time to time.
How are they selected?
Teachers, counselors, family (but not parents) and any others who recognize a rising 6th, 7th, or 8th grader’s spirit, drive, and accomplishments may nominate. It cannot be a middle school student currently in the 8th grade moving to the high school next year. It must be a student who will be attending one of he middle schools or being home schooled.
We are requesting that nominators consult with the individual on their interest to pursue this opportunity before submitting the application as the selected middle school students will have to commit himself/herself to various events and activities.
All nomination applications must be typed, handwritten applications will NOT be considered.
Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of representatives from the community through the Office of Youth Services on behalf of the Mayor. The Office of Youth Services will contact each of the Ambassadors in June and arrange for them to meet the Mayor. They will publically be announced in October.
How are they recognized?
A kick-off event will be hosted by the Mayor
in October.
A website will be dedicated to the
