Brazilian Festival
Brazilian Festival - Annual Event in October
On October 16, 2010, Chesapeake Sister Cities held Brazilian Festival 2010 at Towne Place at Greenbrier. We honored our Sister City, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil. It turned out to be the perfect day to be outside -- a cloudless sky and fall temperatures.
By design, there were activities for all ages and interests. Everyone enjoyed the martial arts demonstrations that included participation by the audience. Who knew a 3-year-old girl in a pink dress could break a board with one strong kick?
While the children played in the bounce house and had their faces painted, the adults enjoyed a glass of wine or beer and a fashion show featuring designers from across the state. Ballroom dancers inspired the crowd to consider swinging their own partners across the floor -- but maybe at home until they get the hang of it. These couples were pros.
The Chesapeake Master Gardeners freely handed out advice on turning dreams of colorful yards into reality. And the Amazing Magic Dave lived up to his name.
And talk about a surprise. Milton Bullock of the Platters treated the audience to an unexpected performance of "oldies but goodies" favorites. He really must come back next year.
The group is already talking about next year's event, and especially the need for more volunteers. If you're interested in joining in the fun, contact us at sistercities@cityofchesapeake.net.
