Homeowner Jamerson Hook stands beside a pond in his backyard. Comfortable elegance is the theme of this gorgeous yard, located on the Western Branch of the Elizabeth River. |

A large bell is used as yard art in the back yard. “It is 3,000 pounds,” said Jamerson Hook. “It was built in 1880 in Baltimore and was used on a watch ship. I got it from Mr. Colonna, who owned the Colonna Shipyard. It is still a working bell.” |

Masculine order and sensibility are on display with a very attractive raised koi pond with a classic cherub statue. |

Another smaller bell is also used as yard art. “It was built in 1919 and was used on a tugboat.” |

It is a fabulous location for entertaining - with a large sun room that overlooks the garden, a patio with a raised pond and several seating areas, an open area between the gardens and the river, and a boat dock. |

Jamerson Hook has a beautiful yard - but he honors the environment. His front yard does not have any grass. He has planted interesting, curved mulched beds planted with juniper and adorned with large rocks and boulders that can be used as seating. “It is almost maintenance-free,” said Mr. Hook.
