Human Services Advisory Board
The Human Services Advisory Board focuses itself in all matters pertaining to the social welfare of the people of the City of Chesapeake and to monitor the formulation and implementation of social welfare programs in the City.
(City Code Sec 2-611)
The Human Services Department does plenty to help out the residents of Chesapeake. Helping the department is the Human Services Advisory Board. The Board is composed of 13 volunteers and is appointed by City Council to advise the Director of Human Services in all matters related to the Department, and to support programs.
The Board created the "Hand in Hand" project to raise funds for the Social Work Fund and collecting holiday gifts for foster children. Each Advisory Board member has agreed to contact at a minimum, two organizations, agencies or private non-profit groups in order to appeal for donations for the "Hand in Hand” project. More information on the “Hand in Hand” project can be found here: Hand in Hand Flyer 2011
How can you help? If you are interested in sponsoring a child or children for the holidays, contact Tracy Jacobs, Social Work Assistant, at 382-2244. You can also make a monetary donation by writing a check payable to Chesapeake Social Services. Cash donations are not accepted. In the memo section of your check, please identify which project you are donating to. You may mail your check by sending it to Chesapeake Human Services, 100 Outlaw Street, Chesapeake VA 23320, Attn: Pat Shorter.
