The Chesapeake Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will hold its fourth Girls & Young Women’s Empowerment Conference on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Western Branch Community Church.  The theme of the Conference is “Be Positive Assertive and Confident” and will feature workshops for girls ages 10-13 and 14-18 as well as their parents/guardians.  Workshops for girls will include tips on looking great from head to toe, staying fit, avoiding negative influences, and starting their first job.  The Parent and Guardian workshop will encourage “hands-on” parenting.  The Conference will also feature two workshops for all participants.  The first workshop is aimed at giving tips on recognizing the signs of gang activity and participation and ways to prevent gang involvement.  The other workshop will focus on recognizing the signs of relationship abuse and how young women can avoid being caught in the cycle of domestic violence.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all attendees.  This event is free and open to the public, but you MUST register by Friday, October 14, 2011.  No walk-ins will be allowed.  For more information, please contact Mary Phillips at 382-3200.  Flyer and Registration Form
