COUNCIL CHANGES: Dr. Rick W. West was sworn in as Chesapeake Mayor on Nov. 14. The vacancy was created when Mayor Alan P. Krasnoff won the election for Circuit Court Clerk on Nov 7. Council Member John de Triquet was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor. Dwight M. Parker was appointed to fill the City Council vacancy. The next election will be in May, and this term ends in June 30.
HOLIDAY CLOSINGS: All City offices, courts and libraries will close at noon Wednesday, Nov. 22 and all day Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov 24. DMV Select will close at 11:30 a.m. and all community centers will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. They also well be closed Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24. The Visitors Center, 1224 Progressive Drive, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 only. Thursday trash and recycling collection will be on Friday and Friday trash and recycling collection will be on Saturday.

WESTERN BRANCH RESIDENTS: The City will be performing routine fire hydrant maintenance and flushing in your area. This map shows which areas will be affected. Flushing will be between 9 p.m. And 5 a.m. through today, Nov. 21. There's no hazard associated with this work, but your water might be discolored. Please check your water before washing clothes. If your water doesn't return to normal by noon, please call Public Utilities at 757-382-6352.
GYMS CLOSED: Several Chesapeake Community Center gymnasiums will be closed for floor maintenance. The other rooms and sections of each Community Center will remain open during this time. Deep Creek, Western Branch and Indian River community centers gyms will be closed today, Nov. 20, to Sunday, Nov. 26.
